Caroline Scheufele designed the IMPERIALE Four Seasons watch for Chopard, a fusion of art, fine watchmaking and jewellery. The dial, set with diamonds and marquetry in mother-of-pearl, takes on different hues as the seasons change, thanks to a LUC movement equipped with an exclusive module.
Under an ethically grown 18K white gold lotus, the micro-marquetry inlaid with mother-of-pearl changes its appearance constantly. Blue in the winter, vibrant green in the spring, lemon yellow in the summer and copper in the autumn. The colours slowly alternate in a rhythm that follows day after day. The IMPERIALE Four Seasons watch is a fragment of a landscape painting that evolves over time. Conceived by Caroline Scheufele, co-president of Chopard, this mechanical poem combines technical proficiency, artistic sensibility, rigorous style and watchmaking creativity.
This watch belongs to the Imperiale collection, which was created in 1994. True to the collection, the upper half of the dial features a lotus engraved in ethical 18K white gold. The petals are lace-like, satin-finished and polished at the veins. The lotus also appears as a crown, with diamonds set on the top and sides.

Organic mosaics and mother-of-pearl palette
Under the ethical white gold petals, a unique visual magic flows. The decoration of the mother-of-pearl mosaic subtly changes throughout the year. This landscape dial is revealed from a slightly different angle every day. This mosaic is particularly complex to create, as mother-of-pearl is a fragile organic material. To complement this evolving dial, Chopard equips the IMPERIALE Four Seasons watch with four interchangeable alligator leather straps. Blue, green, yellow, orange – each color is perfectly integrated with the seasons, and its tone is cleverly coordinated with the hue of the dial.
The brilliant diamonds continue to shine, arranged in a straight line from the dial, bezel to the case, with the bezel and lugs all set with diamonds, and the lugs set with pear-shaped gemstones.
Orthodoxy and watchmaking creativity
Behind this precious dial, the LUC 96.31-L movement with an exclusive complication module is hidden. This movement demonstrates the expertise that Chopard has accumulated and cultivated over the past three decades. In 1996, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, the current co-president of the brand, led Chopard's watchmaking factory in Fleurier, Jura, Switzerland, to undergo a major strategic transformation aimed at developing high-precision mechanical movements. The LUC movement and its series pay tribute to the brand's founder, Louis-Ulysse Chopard in 1860.
The LUC 96.31-L watch is from this series. This self-winding mechanical watch incorporates the Twin system developed in-house by Chopard. Two coaxial barrels provide a 65-hour power reserve. Most importantly, it integrates a unique "Four Seasons" module: a rotating disc that rotates once every 365 days and is indicated by the hour hand. This ingenious mechanism changes the color of the dial, like a miniature natural calendar.
